Pamela Ruegg, professor—tenure system and David J. Ellis Endowed Chair in Antimicrobial Resistance

Dr. Pamela Ruegg’s research focuses on improving dairy cow health and production in three key areas: antimicrobial useage and resistance on farms (in animals and workers); evidence-based guidelines for using antibiotics specifically for mastitis, and evaluating preventable risk factors for mastitis and understanding economic impact of treatment and disease.

Ruegg’s professional reputation is documented through her extensive publications (>130 peer-reviewed manuscripts), invited national and international presentations, and robust extramural funding record. She is part of a multi-disciplinary team of scientists on a USDA-funded grant project that studies how the intestinal microbiome of dairy cattle affects antibiotic resistance, a problem plaguing farms across the country. Ruegg has also received numerous awards for research and extension programs.
